FAQ

What secondary surface finishing options does FUMING offer?

FUMING provides a wide range of secondary surface finishing services to meet the desired appearance of your parts, including anodizing, painting, electroplating, brushing, and more. You can explore further details in our surface finishing capabilities section.

What is DFM?

DFM stands for Design for Manufacturability. At the DFM analysis stage, FUMING engineers review drawings to assess potential manufacturing issues and defects. DFM typically covers the following aspects:

  • Gate location

  • Undercuts (whether demolding is possible)

  • Parting line

  • Ejector pin placement

  • Finish requirements

  • Draft analysis

  • Wall thickness analysis (based on flow length ratio)

  • Material flow

  • Current design and prototyping issues

  • Potential defects (e.g., sink marks, short shots, trapped air, etc.)

Making key design adjustments during the initial design phase saves time and cost, ensures required quantities are met, and accelerates your product’s time to market.

How to verify drawing accuracy before ordering?

We recommend checking the following points before placing an order. Please note that no checklist can cover every scenario. Review each item thoroughly, even for low-volume orders.

  • Completeness – Ensure no missing holes or features.

  • Specifications – Confirm tolerances and specifications are correct.

  • Responsibility – You are fully responsible for the accuracy of submitted files.

  • Surface finish – Verify the chosen finish meets your expectations.

  • Tolerance – Ensure proper allowances and tolerances are applied.

  • Fit – Confirm parts fit together correctly.

How do I get a quote?

There are two ways to start your project:

  1. Upload your 3D CAD files (preferably in STEP or IGES format) in our “Request a Quote” web form.

  2. Email us your 3D CAD files (preferably in STEP or IGS format).

Please include the following details:

Desired manufacturing process, quantity, material, color, surface finish. Including a PDF drawing is recommended to provide additional information on tolerances, inserts, and surface roughness.

What design file formats do you support?

To review your designs and provide a timely quote, we accept 3D CAD files in STEP (.stp), IGES (.igs), and X_T formats. We highly recommend including a 2D drawing in PDF format with tolerance requirements or tapped hole details.

How long does it take to receive a quote?

We provide quotations and free design feedback within 24 hours or sooner. If there are potential manufacturing issues in your designs, we will contact you promptly with detailed information and suggestions.

What materials are available for production?

We can source most common materials available on the market. Click here to learn more about material properties and applications. Customer-supplied materials are also acceptable if compatible with our machine capabilities.

What tolerances can you achieve?

General tolerances for CNC machining are ISO 2768-1 F for metal and ISO 2768-1 M for plastic. Please specify if you require tighter tolerances than ISO standards.

Do you have minimum or maximum order quantities?

We do not set minimum or maximum order quantities. You can order from 1 to over 100,000 units.

Note: For processes like CNC machining or vacuum casting that involve setup costs, unit prices may decrease significantly with higher quantities as the setup cost is distributed across the order.

What are FUMING’s shipping terms for prototyping and production orders?

For both rapid prototyping and production orders, our terms are Ex Works (EXW). This means we are responsible for preparing the goods at our factory, while the customer is responsible for all transportation costs, customs duties, and any additional charges involved in shipping the goods from our facility to the final destination.

What are your payment terms?

  1. Rapid Prototyping: New customers are required to pay in full upon order confirmation. Net 30‑day payment terms may be offered after a number of prepaid orders and upon approval by our accounting department.

  2. Tooling: For tooling orders (and any associated parts on the initial purchase order, if applicable), payment terms are 50% upfront and the remaining 50% upon sample approval.

  3. Molding & Casting: Molding or casting projects will begin only after 100% of the tooling payment has been received in advance.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept bank‑to‑bank wire transfers only.

How quickly can I receive my parts?

With complete 2D and 3D CAD drawings provided, we can produce high‑quality parts within one week. We will expedite the manufacturing process whenever possible.
As for shipping, air freight from China to North America or Europe typically takes 2–5 calendar days.

How much does shipping cost?

Shipping costs are estimated based on the weight, dimensional weight, destination, and shipping method of your order. Customers are responsible for all duties, taxes, and fees related to international shipping. Unless otherwise agreed, all rapid prototyping and regular production orders are shipped Ex Works (EXW), meaning the customer covers all shipping costs, import duties, taxes, and related charges once the goods leave our facility.

Can I choose the fastest shipping option?

Absolutely. Since our shipping terms are Ex Works (EXW), you may select either express or standard air freight according to your requirements.

Do you offer reverse engineering and design services?

If you do not have a 3D file or if your existing 3D CAD model is not production-ready, we can create a high-quality CAD model based on your concept. We also provide reverse engineering services using your existing physical parts.

Do you sign NDAs (Non-Disclosure Agreements)?

While FUMING respects your privacy and ensures the security and confidentiality of your information, we are also willing to sign and adhere to an NDA or confidentiality agreement.

Does FUMING provide export molds?

Yes, we provide export molds. Please specify your requirements so we can manufacture the tooling in a size compatible with your own molding machines.

What is FUMING’s Import/Export Code for China?

FUMING’s import and export code for China is [Please insert code here].

  • What if part quality does not meet my specifications?

All our parts are manufactured in accordance with your design and requirements. For example, the sheet metal we produce conforms to the industry standard sheet metal fabrication tolerances. Also we did a comprehensive final inspection before shipping your parts, they were within specification. In the unlikely event a non-conformity is found, please notify us within 7 days of receipt of goods so that we can provide you with a solution. We will replace or rework for free if it is our responsibility.

  • How we ensure the quality of your parts?

It is our goal to deliver quality products, on time, at competitive prices. We will work with our customers to develop a clear understanding of their needs and requirements. We will support our clients’ goals and success by continuously improving our operations and quality program to deliver a defect-free product.

    PART INSPECTION:

    – 100% inspection of close tolerance dimensions or flow requirements as well as “fit-form” features such as threads, slip fits, press fits etc.

    – First article inspection, in process sampling and final inspection data available upon request.

    SHIPPING:

    – We take pride in our shipping procedures and packaging that far exceed your requirements. We make sure that you receive your parts clean, deburred, undamaged and clearly identified.

  • How can you protect goods from damages during the transport?

The small pieces of parts will be carefully wrapped by polyethylene foam or bubble warp and placed in corrugated cartons to offer rigidity and impact protection. The heavy and bulky parts will be protected in wooden crates.
