Get Colorful Demonstration Models and High-Fidelity Prototype Parts
With vibrant color options and one of the fastest turnaround times among our technologies, the PolyJet process is an ideal choice for producing attractive, high-precision models quickly. PolyJet 3D printing rapidly produces parts with exceptional fine detail, smooth surfaces, and precision. This technology works with a vast array of materials, including rigid opaque options in hundreds of vibrant colors, clear and tinted translucent shades, rubber-like flexible materials, and specialized photopolymers for dental, medical, and consumer product applications.
Similar to an inkjet printer, this process jets layers of liquid photopolymer that are instantly cured by UV lights attached to the print heads. This rapid process creates fine layers for high-resolution parts—up to 16 microns—that can be produced quickly, sometimes within the same day. PolyJet is also valued for its ability to print multiple materials, durometers, and colors in a single build, as well as living hinges, overhangs, and complex geometries without requiring assembly.

What is PolyJet 3D Printing?
PolyJet is the only 3D printing technology capable of producing highly detailed parts with smooth surface finishes, making it an invaluable prototyping tool across diverse industries—from product design and engineering to healthcare and education. Its unique ability to 3D print using multiple materials enables the production of components with a wide range of physical properties, including soft rubber, rigid, clear, and opaque surfaces—all in a single print. This versatility, combined with exceptional surface quality, makes PolyJet ideal for rapidly creating highly aesthetic prototypes that replicate injection-molded plastics.
PolyJet Matrix technology empowers designers to produce rubber-like prototypes with variable shore hardness, making it particularly suitable for applications such as overmolds, soft-touch components, and assemblies. By harnessing PolyJet Matrix 3D printing, designers can achieve intricate, customized designs with outstanding precision and efficiency, expanding the possibilities of what can be accomplished with additive manufacturing.
How Does PolyJet Material Jetting 3D Printing Work?
PolyJet 3D printing is an advanced additive process that rapidly produces precise parts using photopolymers, UV light, and inkjet print heads. It achieves high accuracy by depositing and curing layers of liquid resin to form digital materials. The process begins with a CAD model converted into a printable file format. Droplets of photopolymer are jetted onto the build platform and immediately cured by UV lamps, bonding each layer to the previous one. Support materials are then dissolved or manually removed to reveal the finished PolyJet model.
Common PolyJet 3D Printing Applications
PolyJet 3D printing serves a wide variety of applications across numerous industries:
- Form and fit testing and product presentation models
- Prototyping for complex components
- Product development and design validation
- Prototyping for overmolding and silicone rubber parts
- Combining multiple colors or durometers in a single print
- Simulating elastomers and flexible materials
- Anatomical and medical models
What are the advantages of PolyJet technology?
PolyJet technology is renowned for its superior surface finish, enabling the creation of detailed and smooth prototypes. This manufacturing method is widely adopted for rapid prototyping due to its exceptional precision relative to CAD files. The resin-based process can produce intricate features, complex shapes, and delicate characteristics with high accuracy. It is an efficient technique that integrates a broad range of materials and colors into individual models.
Certain resin materials available with PolyJet technology offer unique properties. For instance, VeroClear—which we will explore in more detail later—has the ability to become transparent after polishing.
